At the Centre for Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (CAMES), we are dedicated to fostering intellectual engagement and cultural exchange through a variety of academic events. Our mission is to provide platforms for learning, discussion, and collaboration on topics relevant to Asia and the Middle East. Below is an overview of our key activities:
Events
CAMES hosts a comprehensive program of events designed to share knowledge and encourage thoughtful debate. Our events include public talks, lectures, seminars, and workshops, each bringing together experts and academics to explore a wide range of subjects. Whether online or in-person, these events aim to engage a broad audience, from scholars and students to the general public.
Talks
Our public talks are held multiple times throughout the year, featuring distinguished scholars, researchers, and leaders in various fields. These sessions cover a broad spectrum of topics that resonate with general audiences, offering insights into current affairs, cultural trends, and significant academic discussions. CAMES takes pride in the caliber of its speakers and the relevance of the topics addressed.
Lectures and Lecture Series
CAMES offers an extensive schedule of public lectures and seminar series that run throughout the year. These lectures are delivered by some of the most respected figures in academia and activism. Current lecture series include contributions from notable scholars such as Prof. Dr. Recep Senturk, former founding president of Ibn Haldun University, Turkiye; Prof. Saeed A Khan of Wayne State University, USA; Dr. Yakoob Ahmed of Istanbul University, Turkiye; and Dr. Naoki Yamamoto of Marmara University, Turkiye. Our lectures are designed to be accessible to a wide audience, providing a platform for deep engagement with complex socio-economic, historical, and political issues.
Seminars
The seminars at CAMES are renowned for their diversity of topics and the expertise of the speakers. These sessions offer a unique learning experience, encouraging the exchange of ideas and fostering collaboration. While most seminars are open to the public, some are exclusively available to the CAMES community. The range of perspectives presented at these seminars ensures a broad and enriching dialogue on various subjects.
Workshops
In addition to talks and lectures, CAMES organizes several workshops throughout the year. These workshops are typically small, with 6 to 15 participants, allowing for personalized attention and active participation. They are designed to introduce practical skills, techniques, or ideas that attendees can apply in their professional or personal lives. Our workshops are led by experts with real-world experience in the subject matter, ensuring that participants receive high-quality instruction and relevant knowledge.
At CAMES, our goal is to create an environment where knowledge and ideas can flourish, contributing to a deeper understanding of Asian and Middle Eastern societies. Through our diverse programs, we aim to inspire, educate, and connect individuals who are passionate about these regions.
