East Asia is a region with the oldest Islamic traditions and the most recent dynamics.
While China retains more than 1000 years of Islamic tradition, Japan has less than 150 years of history of interaction with Muslims. In the history of Islamic civilization, the Muslim communities of East Asia have often been marginalized.
However, the history and contemporary challenges of East Asian Muslims share many similarities with Muslims in other regions.
How should contemporary Muslims understand East Asian Islamic traditions and culture?
This lecture series will introduce the potential for the creation of East Asian Islamic thought and culture and the Chinese Islamic tradition as a pioneer in this field.
