Nayeem Mahmud, Director of Operations

Nayeem Mahmud serves as the Director of Operations at the Centre for Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, bringing a strong background in media and business. He is the founding Director of Real-time News Network, one of the leading online news outlets. Educated at Goldsmiths in Media and the University of Gloucestershire in Business IT, Nayeem has held key roles at renowned media outlets and corporations. He also served as the General Secretary for the Bangladesh Development Initiative (BDI), demonstrating his expertise in strategic management and organizational leadership.




Naufal Zamir, Director of Business and Research

Naufal Zamir serves as the Director of Business at the Centre for Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, bringing nearly two decades of entrepreneurial experience and strategic leadership. Over his career, he has generated over £100 million in revenue through sales and successfully launched more than 15 products. Recognized by The Sunday Times Tech Track as leading one of the fastest-growing tech companies in the UK (2011, 2012), Naufal has deep expertise in fintech, telecommunications, cross-border payments, and business strategy. His passion for driving growth and innovation makes him a key asset in fostering global business engagement and strategic development at the Centre.



Dr Ali Ahmed-Shuaib, 
Director of Policy and Communication

Dr Ali Ahmed-Shuaib serves as Director of Policy and Communication at the Centre for Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (cames.org.uk). He works as a Consultant in General Practice and Associate Specialist in Otolaryngology, He has also developed a passion for Lifestyle Medicine and Medical Education. Over the last three decades, he has developed a keen interest in international relations, de-colonial studies, secular liberalism and its impact on modern society and particularly looking at the evolution of society through diverging world viewpoints. This has led him to pursue an LLM in International legal studies from the University of East London. His thesis was titled “Political Islam And The West – Collision, Conquest or Convergence ?” His writings include “establishing the authority without authoritarianism – a quest for accountable governance within Islamic political discourse” and “Democratising Islam- Imposing the Demos on the Divine ?”. He also completed postgraduate studies in Medical Education from the University of Cambridge. Dr Shuaib also lends his expertise as a board executive for various health charities  and also advises entrepreneurial startups.
